Global K-drama hit “Marry My Husband” is getting a Japanese makeover — and it’s set to make waves again, this time on Amazon Prime Video.

CJ ENM announced that a Japanese version of the beloved drama will premiere this June 27, featuring a star-studded cast and production team.

The upcoming series is based on the popular Naver web novel, which was previously adapted into a tvN drama in 2024 by Studio Dragon. The story, centered on betrayal, time travel, and revenge, captured viewers with its gripping narrative. It topped the ratings for Monday-Tuesday dramas on tvN and was named the 3rd best Korean drama of 2024 by UK pop culture outlet NME.

In the Japanese remake, the leading roles will be played by Fuka Koshiba, a rising star in Japan, and top actor Takeru Satoh, known for his intense performances. Directing the project is Ahn Gil-ho, the critically acclaimed director of The Glory, while the screenplay is written by Satomi Oshima. CJ ENM JAPAN and Studio Dragon are in charge of planning, with Jiyuro Pictures and Shochiku handling production.

“As K-dramas continue to receive global acclaim, we’re actively developing various projects,” a CJ ENM representative shared. “This Korea-Japan joint production will bring a fresh wave to the global content market.”

The remake will consist of 10 episodes and will be exclusively available on Amazon Prime Video in Japan and worldwide. Details regarding its domestic Korean release are to be announced.

Airing in July on TBS, “Hatsukoi DOGs” is a healing romance drama about conflict and reconciliation among three characters connected by their love for dogs. The cast includes a third-generation Korean chaebol, a Japanese veterinarian and a divorce lawyer — played by actors Na In-woo, Kiyohara Kaya and Narita Ryo. Studio Dragon’s PD Kim Gyeo-rae is participating as co-producer, with PD Noh Young-seop serving as co-director.

In August, “Soul Mate”, produced by Studio Dragon’s subsidiary GTist, will be released globally via Netflix. Set in Berlin, Seoul and Tokyo, the drama follows ten years of healing, friendship and life between two men. Hayato Isomura plays Ryu, while Ok Taecyeon takes on the role of Johan. The screenplay and direction are by Hashizume Shunki.

With these three Japanese dramas, Studio Dragon has effectively established a global production framework spanning Korea, the U.S. and Japan. The company previously co-produced Apple TV+’s series “The Big Door Prize” with U.S.-based Skydance in 2023 and followed up with Season 2 this year.

Studio Dragon’s move highlights its ambitious IP expansion strategy and positions the company as a major player in cross-border storytelling.
